"When I was just 9 years old, on the windswept frigid prairie of Idaho. My father took me out to harvest my first buffalo. Things were different back then. We ate what we killed and wasted nothing. A small pack hung loosely off my shoulder with only the supplies needed for 3 days. A small satchel of smoked meat, a pipe and tobacco, A canteen and my glasses. The glasses were passed down from my grandfather. He was burned badly in a forging accident after the First World War. His eyes were damaged and he had a glassmaker tint a pair of glasses to smooth his tired eyes. I wore those glasses with pride. We had left the lowlands and found ourselves in the mountain country. My stomach growled and I began to fear we may be lost. Just as hope became fleeting, a buffalo appeared. I raised my rifle and shot. I hit the buffalo in the heart, it let out a grizzly moan and it layed dying on the frozen ground. Its calf moaned in sorrow for its dying mother. My father pulled his colt from his hip and planted a round into the babies skull. It was simply a mercy killing. Fast and poetic. These lenses bring me back to that day. Just a boy his rifle, his father and the sweet feeling of bringing meat home to my mother and my little sister. These lenses take me back in time. I thank you."
